FCC Chairman AJIT PAI has circulated a plan for an incubator program to fulfill the Commission's intention to create a plan to encourage broadcast ownership diversity, as adopted in 2017. The proposal, to be voted on at the AUGUST Open Meeting and to be initially focused on AM/FM radio station ownership, would pair established broadcasters with smaller new entrants or struggling smaller broadcast station operators, having the larger broadcasters offer financial and operational support.
PAI said, “The FCC is committed to taking action to promote diversity in the broadcast industry. That’s why we will be voting at our AUGUST meeting to move forward with a new incubator program. This program will encourage new voices, including women and minorities, to enter the broadcast business. In particular, it will help address the significant barriers, including lack of access to capital, that currently make it hard for many to join the broadcast industry."
